Websites that work for my clients & work for their clients
Each web design is a unique story and a bespoke process. But there are three issues that I focus on the most.
These three examples below, from my web design portfolio, illustrate how these three key issues can be solved.
01
A need to find new clients
Illuminate | web site design
This experienced team of arts and heritage education professionals needed a new website to develop a customer base, which was not needed before the recent pandemic.
I worked closely with Karen, the Director, to create a new website showcasing their project work whilst at the same time emphasising their adaptable approach.
02
Easy to update
Hannah | web site & e-commerce
Hannah wanted a very simple and clean portfolio website to show her past projects to clients and for it to be very easy to update.
Hannah already had a strong brand and a strong set of values. She also has great photography skills so had some amazing images of her work. The challenge came in keeping the web design simple and clean so as not to compete with the images and the brand.
03
Grow with your business
Lisa | web site & e-commerce
It started as a large portfolio site and has since expanded to include a client portal and an online shop.
Over the two years since we first did her website, it has grown a lot. Not only has Lisa added new practices to her photography business but we have also made her website work harder for her business in terms of marketing and promotion.
you need a website that
works for you
Freelancers have a close & personal connection to their business, I know I do. This is why I understand that it is very important to find the right people to work with.
I take the time to get to understand your business so that your website will connect with your ideal clients or customers. I want your website and your business to be as successful as possible.

The project
Illuminate UK are an experienced team of arts and heritage education professionals who work in museum and heritage learning with community groups, schools, training providers and education.
I worked closely with Karen, the Director, to create a new website showcasing their project work whilst at the same time emphasising their adaptable approach.
The web design was purely an information site for potential new clients and funders but Karen wanted it to be engaging and interesting.
A new start
Her previous website was very dated, so the project also involved some basic branding design so that the new website had the right look and feel.
Finally, as Karen was looking for new audiences & clients we focused a lot on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) so that the new website could be found by many more people.

Web design with WordPress
I was concerned about my lack of tech knowledge – that Jules would use terms I don’t know and I’d be embarrassed to say.
This worry didn’t come true – she has a great knack for explaining a term or bit of kit without it feeling in any way patronising. I feel she can remember what it was like to not know!

The project
Hannah’s original brief was that she wanted a very simple and clean portfolio website to show clients her past projects. The reason why her site is featured in my web design portfolio is that she stated from the start that it had to be very easy for her to keep it up to date herself.
Hannah already had a strong brand and a strong set of values. She also has great photography skills so had some amazing images of her work. The challenge came in keeping the web design simple and clean so as not to compete with the images and the brand.
Most recently it has expanded to include an e-commerce shop. The main brief for the shop was to keep the costs to an absolute minimum she just wanted a pop-up shop for Christmas. Read the blog post about how it was done here →

Jules is my I.T. guru! She is great at finding cheeky workarounds and plug-ins. She recently added an online shop to my existing website, saving me having to upgrade to the next website package and spend loads more cash on it each year.

The project
Lisa had bought a website template but decided that she didn’t have the time or knowledge to do it herself. This is not the only reason why her site is featured in this web design portfolio. Over the two years since we first did her website, it has grown a lot. Not only has Lisa added new practices to her photography business but we have also made her website work harder for her business in terms of marketing and promotion.
The main challenge for Lisa’s website is that it has lots of images, which slows down a website considerably. So I have done a lot of work in the background to keep the page load speed as short as possible.
Most recently we have added an online shop to the site. It is a simple e-commerce set up just selling downloadable gift vouchers using WooCommerce a free software system. The design of the shop, however, is not quite so simple – it is completely on-brand to Lisa’s brand design and her values.

Web design and e-commerce – WordPress
Jules took the time to understand my business and where I wanted it to be in the future and was able to design a website that truly represented me.
She was also very practical in her approach so as well as being beautiful my website is also easy to navigate and to use, which makes life so much easier for me and my clients.
